Based on recent events, Price felt that it seemed out of the ordinary that he should arrive at the library without incident. However, his sample size was small and he could have just as easily flipped a coin. He was out of breath, though; Price hastily ran across the campus to reach the library on time.

As Price entered the library, rather short of breath, he ran into Sophie on her way out. When Sophie spotted him she smiled and immediately walked over for a greeting.

Keeping with the new theme of normality, Sophie opened with a simple, “good morning.”

“Oh,” Price gathered his breath, “good morning.” He quickly thought to ask her how she was. “How are you this morning?” He asked in the most strained way.

“I’m good, how about yourself?” Sophie followed up.

“I had a strange morning,” Price confessed, “but I’m good.”

“Hey,” Sophie, uncomfortably rueful, rubbed the back of her neck, “I’m sorry about ducking out so quick last night.”

“Oh it’s no,” Price started, but Sophie interrupted.

“Crap!” She declared, “is it that late already. I’m going to be late for work.”

“Oh, go.” Price always felt that showing up as scheduled is one of the most important virtues in life.

Sophie began to head for the door and turned around after putting a hand on the door. “We’ll talk again, bye.”

Price raised his hand to wave, but, like last night, it was too late. He spoke under his breath “bye” knowing that it was far too late for her to hear it anyway. He took that as a signal to get to work himself. It was then that Price remembered the book he had found out of place.

However, the book was no longer on the counter. Price looked all over the kiosk, but there was still no book. He looked under the counter. It was clean and there were no books, and certainly not the book he was looking for.

By nature, Price was resolution oriented. All problems have a solution; all mysteries have an answer. With his strong conviction for finding answers, Price went back to the shelf he where recalled finding the book. Again, the book was nowhere to be found. More fascinating, the shelf did not have room to fit another book on it.
